Background
Mobile operating systems have developed enormously. Starting from black and white handsets and arriving at today’s smartphones — effectively pocket computers — mobile platforms have come a long way, from Palm OS in 1996, through Windows Pocket PC, BlackBerry OS and on to Android.
Android Inc. was founded in Palo Alto, California by Andy Rubin, Rich Miner, Nick Sears and Chris White in 2003, and was acquired by Google in 2005. Since its original release there have been many updates to the platform, and it is now one of the most widely used mobile operating systems in the world.

Messaging
SMS and MMS are available forms of messaging, including threaded text messaging, alongside Google’s cloud messaging services which underpin modern push notification delivery.
Voice-based features
Search by voice has been available since the platform’s initial release, and voice actions for calling, texting and navigation are supported. The platform can respond to spoken commands and read answers back to the user.
Web content
The browser and embedded web views available in Android are based on the open-source Blink layout engine, coupled with Chrome’s V8 JavaScript engine — which means web content rendered inside an app behaves consistently with the browser.
Interaction and multitasking
Multi-touch input, multitasking of applications with unique handling of memory allocation, screen capture and multiple language support are all part of the platform.
Streaming media support
RTP and RTSP streaming, progressive download via the HTML5 video element, and HTTP live streaming are supported by the operating system.
How we build today
Current Android work at BONITS is built with Kotlin and the modern Android toolchain, with cloud back ends, offline-first data handling and, where it fits, on-device machine learning models for vision and text tasks.
